About
Madeleine is an artist and educator living in north central Florida. She has degrees in art education at Flagler College and the University of Florida, and has been teaching elementary art for fifteen years. She spends her time exploring Florida's outdoors with her two young boys and creating images of natural Florida in her home studio.

Statement
Creating images of natural Florida is an extension of hiking and experiencing the landscapes on foot. Play and moving through the spaces is how I enjoy being out in nature, so I take photographs and use those, as well as memories, as reference material in my home studio instead of creating onsite. My paintings tend to be loose and organic, suggesting movement and relating to how I interact with the land.
I predominately create image of northern Florida, but I travel throughout the state and paint many of the places that I explore. In 2019, I worked as an artist in residence in Big Cypress National Preserve. The opportunity to live and paint in one of the most sacred and remote Florida places was lifechanging.
